PLANNING A DENTAL MISSION
1. Gather a cohesive, adaptable team
- Team leader is a certified dentist
- 8 - 12 members (optimum)
2. Research a location of need
- Through a Rotary club, religious organization, dental association, etc.
- Make personal contact with responsible persons in the destination
- Fact check thoroughly
3. Plan logistics for your team & equipment
- Safe transportation of members & equipment
- Safe storage of equipment
- Suitable accommodations
- Dental clinic location
4. Understand the culture
- Ensure all team members respect local culture & laws
- Research food, climate, and customs
- Vaccinations & medications recommended
- Appropriate dress / jewellery
- Acceptable physical contact
- Personal health & safety
- Vaccinations required

5. Contact TDMP
- Give travel dates & team name
- Check equipment availability
- Provide a detailed itinerary
- Provide deposit payment
- Give credit card imprint for equipment return
- Fill out
TDMP Application Form
- Have each traveler on the Mission Trip complete the
TDMP Release Form
- E-mail or call TDMP

**** The Team Leader (Dentist ) will have to sign out the equipment
and supplies and provide a visa number as a deposit guarantee
for damamged or missing equipment

6. UBC Faculty of Dentistry
- Provide tax receipts for donations of $100 or more
- Website

- Your team mission trip will be added to the website for donations
- 5% will be transferred to Dentistry Endowment Fund in the name of Carlos Carillo
- All trip expenses plus 5% can be donated to UBC Dentistry and a tax receipt given

7. Release of funds
- Upon receipt of proof of travel & itinerary
- TDMP will coordinate with UBC Dentistry to have funds released to the team leader (Dentist)

8. Equipment and Supplies
- TDMP will provide basic equipment and supplies, depending on specific needs organizers may wish to supplement
- Schedule a tutorial prior to departure
- Set up of portable equipment
- Take custody of equipment

9. Procedures for return of equipment
- Schedule with Patterson a suitable time for return & signing in of equipment
- Provide a cheque to TDMP for $500 maintenance fee
